Identification

ISO 6469-1
Electrically propelled road vehicles – Safety specifications – Part  1: On-board rechargeable energy storage systems (RESS)

Scope

This document specifies safety requirements for rechargeable energy storage systems (RESS) of electrically propelled road vehicles for the protection of persons.

It does not provide the comprehensive safety information for the manufacturing, maintenance and repair personnel.

This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition (ISO 6469-1:2009) and ISO 12405-3:2014, which have been technically revised.

The main changes compared to ISO 6469-1:2009 and ISO 12405-3:2014 are as follows:

·     — test descriptions and requirements were reworked to include specific characteristics for lithium-ion based battery systems;

·     — document was reworked to become a general safety standard for all RESS types; and

·     — almost all test procedures and descriptions as given in the previous versions of both documents have been adapted to the latest technical developments

Technical changes were made to the Draft International Standard (FDIS). A Final Draft Amendment to the FDIS was posted for review and vote until 9/19/22.

Identification

ISO 6469-2
Electrically propelled road vehicles – Safety specifications – Part  2:  Vehicle operational safety

Scope

This document specifies requirements for operational safety specific to electrically propelled road vehicles, for the protection of persons inside and outside the vehicle.

The third edition main changes compared to the previous edition are as follows:

·     — clarification of the single-point failure definition and  related measures;

·     — improvement of the operational safety requirements for the driving-enabled mode;

·     — elimination of marking requirements;

·     — clear requirements for connection of the vehicle to an external electric power supply;

·     — simplification of EMC requirements.

This fourth edition main changes compared to the previous edition are as follows:

·     — introduction of requirements for an external sound generation system;

·     — introduction of requirements for the operation of an auxiliary system;

·     — informational annex on standardized symbols for driver information.
